Commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War

Today, we gather solemnly to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Together, we remember history, honor the martyrs, cherish peace, and forge ahead into the future.

On behalf of the CPC Central Committee, the National People's Congress, the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and the Central Military Commission, Chinese President Xi Jinping pays high tribute to the veterans, veteran comrades, patriots, and generals who participated in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, and to the Chinese people at home and abroad who made significant contributions to the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. I express my heartfelt gratitude to the foreign governments and international friends who supported and helped the Chinese people in resisting aggression. I extend a warm welcome to the distinguished guests from all over the world attending today's meeting!

The Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression was a great war fought with utmost arduous struggle. Under the banner of the Anti-Japanese National United Front, advocated and established by the Communist Party of China, the Chinese people fought a powerful enemy with unwavering resolve and built the Great Wall with their flesh and blood, achieving the first complete victory against foreign invasion in modern times.

The Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression is an important component of the World Anti-Fascist War. At the cost of immense national sacrifice, the Chinese people made significant contributions to saving human civilization and safeguarding world peace.

History warns us that humanity's destiny is closely linked. Only by treating each other as equals, living in harmony, and supporting each other can all countries and nations safeguard common security, eliminate the root causes of war, and prevent the recurrence of historical tragedies!

The Chinese nation is a great nation that fears no violence and is self-reliant and strong. In the past, faced with the life-and-death struggle between justice and evil, light and darkness, progress and reaction, the Chinese people united in hatred and rose up in resistance, fighting for national survival, national rejuvenation, and human justice. Today, humanity once again faces the choice between peace or war, dialogue or confrontation, win-win or zero-sum. The Chinese people firmly stand on the right side of history and the progress of human civilization, adhere to the path of peaceful development, and work hand in hand with people of all countries to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

The Chinese People's Liberation Army has always been a heroic force that the Party and the people can fully trust. All officers and soldiers must faithfully fulfill their sacred duties, accelerate the development of a world-class military, resolutely safeguard national sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, provide strategic support for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and make greater contributions to world peace and development!

History carries the past and also inspires the future. In this new era and new journey, the people of all ethnic groups across China must, under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China, uphold Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, the important thought of the "Three Represents," and the Scientific Outlook on Development. They must fully implement the Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, unswervingly follow the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, inherit and carry forward the great spirit of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, forge ahead with fortitude and courage, and unite in striving to comprehensively advance China's development and national rejuvenation through Chinese-style modernization.
